A trade can be taught in a year.
A person takes years, and the person is what we form.
The country built schools that issue credentials and called it education. A credential certifies that a box was checked. It cannot produce someone who can be trusted on a roof, with a crew, with a customer’s home, or with the management of a company.
And it teaches only half the knowledge.
The skill is taught in the open.
The second knowledge — how to price, finance, structure, and own — capital keeps to itself.
That asymmetry, more than any gap in talent, is why the man with the most skill so often ends with the least.
We teach both halves, to the people who do the work.
